This is so meaty and gorgeously plotted. I love how the burden falls by default to John, and how he sees it through to the end. His insights on/questions about Lestrade, in particular, are incredibly poignant (and I'd love to know more of that backstory!). Well done indeed. Thanks for sharing this. I'm already looking forward to rereading it.

Much thanks! Benedict Cumberbatch, of all people, suggested a solution to keep Lestrade from becoming insipid (GG commentary), so I may see what I can do with it.

Oh, I'd love to read what you do with that!!! (And I see the nods to some of that here...)

Aggh! LJ ate my comment the first go 'round. *crossing fingers that it'll save this time*

It was a nice change of pace to have John as the protagonist alone. Having him becoming friends with the Yarders and getting his insights into the people he meets and the crime itself was great.

What a wonderful mystery! You totally fooled me about who the murderer was. I was thinking Mrs. Anderson killed herself and set all this up to frame Mr. Anderson & Sgt. Donovan. The appearance of Mycroft and his little scene (and barbs) with Sherlock was cute.

Thanks for your persistence and encouragement! I didn't think the Mycroft scene was necessary, but I could not resist! I'm very excited that the mystery element worked.

Thanks for the encouragement! The first draft of this story ended with them getting the card and Elaine escaping.

I love this! It has a really realistic feel to it - not that it fits characters or personalities (because it does) but that it feels like real life as well as the tv show.

I loved John in this so much - you've really given him a time to shine!

I like the ending. Not only do they capture Elaine, but John goes off to make friends :)

Thank you for sharing ♥

Thanks! I was a little worried about making some of those scenes feel real to others. John desperately needs friends and knows it. So does Sherlock, but he has no idea!
