Yeah, they got divorced. And they hate him with the passion of a thousand suns. And now my sister and mother hate me for taking money from him. Blah

I can't give advice on anything, but at 29, if you are ready to move on with your life and be on your own, you're gonna have to do it no matter what anyone else thinks. You know you can't put your life on hold for hurting someone else's feelings.
