Alternatively, can your character talk to animals?: Colette cannot speak with animals, but she has lost her humanity for several days up to several weeks. She lost her ability to feel, sleep, eat, her heart, and her soul. It isn't mentioned if she was breathing or not during the time she didn't have her soul so I guess it's your call on whether or not that counts as dying.
