Olive's a great name for a person. Olive oil, olive leaf, olive skin, Popeye, all good. Olivia is nice but everyone names babies that now. It takes guts to name your kid Olive. It's a strong name.

I almost got named Lucy but my parents didn't want me to get teased. Do you have any almost-names?

Brandi, you're a fine girl, what a good wife you would be!

Yeah, the song has a y, but still. No one wants to be Brandy or Brandi, if you're gonna get talked to like that.

i was thinking about olive v. olivia on friday. weird.

i was almost hannah, but they decided that it was too amish. and my grandmother wanted them to name me myrtle, after her mother, but that was never really on the table.

My mom is named Olive and my sister is Olivia--it's a good combination.

My father had planned that he would have two sons, named Patrick and Michael, so that they could be a proverbial Pat and Mike. He shared this thought with his older brother, who had children before my father, and ripped-off the idea, and my father didn't want his sons to be named the same as were those of his brother. Hence, I was not named Patrick.

Penelope. I thought it was gross and weird as a kid but now I think that I'd consider passing it along if I were ever to have a girl.... which I won't.

Yeah, that name really bugged me as a kid, too. There's some cool story connected to it, though, isn't there?

Josiah. But my grandmother thought it sounded too religious.
