Olive's a great name for a person. Olive oil, olive leaf, olive skin, Popeye, all good. Olivia is nice but everyone names babies that now. It takes guts to name your kid Olive. It's a strong name.

I almost got named Lucy but my parents didn't want me to get teased. Do you have any almost-names?

Among my mom's lay midwife granola circle of friends, I knew so many hippie kids with that name!

Hehe. My friend Harmony's mother jokingly told her that her name was almost Snow Plum Blossom.

I was going to be named Luke. I was pretty pissed it didn't happen during the star wars years, but by the empire years I was psyched.

Man...but that would have been kind of awesome. What the hell were they thinking?!?

they wanted to name a child after a precious metal. yes, i'm serious. they reasoned, platinum doesn't work for a name in any universe (but sterling does?! whatever) and gold is awful too, but would have only worked for a girl (again, i guess i just have to accept their logic as it is). they had already decided to name a girl after my mother's father, who had recently passed away. so i was born, and the name sterling died that day.

You can decide to name your child after a noble gas.
