Just because we're female...

Jul 14, 2010 14:04

...Doesn't mean that we can't love baseball for the game itself (of course, some of the guys ARE hot;)). I'm sick of the guys who act like because we ARE female, we can't know and love baseball. Anyways, what are y'all's favorite team(s)? Detroit Tigers for me, though I love the Boston Red Sox and baseball in general. :)

Red Sox and White Sox for me.

Maybe I just don't associate with misogynistic jerks, but I've never had a guy imply that I am less of a baseball fan just because I'm a girl.

Sweet, nice to meet another Red Sox fan. I've had a couple that have said it, I'm not friends with them, because most of them I've come across, are jerks in other aspects, as well.

That's exactly it. If a guy is going to act like you're an inferior baseball fan just because you happen to be female, then yeah, the misogyny doesn't stop there.

I actually notice it a lot in the Red Sox fandom, particularly in reference to so-called "pink hats." I mean, don't even get me started on that term. Some people try disguising their sexism by implying that "pink hat" is a unisex term applying to any bandwagon/superficial fan who doesn't know anything about the game, but let's be serious.

It's especially prevalent in reference to Jacoby Ellsbury fans, and of course that is perpetuated by Boston sports writers. One of my friends sometimes gives me flack for liking Jacoby, and he's pointed out that a lot of it is because so many of Jacoby's fans are just so incredibly annoying, though he acknowledges that I actually know stuff about baseball and therefore do not fall into that category. (Which is gracious of him, considering the fact that he taught me everything I know about the sport ( ... )

That's just misogyny under another guise...the idea that men think women need a man's validation in the first place is just sexist in its own right.

What do you do for the Red Wings if I can ask? I just get really excited when I find other people working in the minors cause they understand the crazy hours.

That's awesome. I've yet to meet a female media relations intern, then again the radio guys I've worked with have done their best to keep it a boys club in the press box.

Right now I'm working with the Trenton Thunder. As much as I miss home, I'm super pumped because this is the first time I've worked with a team that has a legit shot of going deep into the playoffs. I'm gameday so I won't get a ring if they win it all (even though I do work FO hours all day, every week). But hey, at least I'll get the bragging rights of saying I made all the team's graphics and videos.

That seems to be a prevalent attitude amongst men regardless of the sport. It also happens to be a total double standard - we know you don't watch the ladies volleyball for the sport lads; you watch it for the women in skimpy clothes with their titties bouncing up and down.

Without apology, I'm a fan of the Evil Empire. =P

And we like Hooters for their hot wings, too.

Hah, can I guess you recently came up against this?

I've never experienced this with regard to baseball. Actually, I must be surrounded by some pretty good people, because the last time I felt I was treated differently because of my sex was in high school (I was on a robot building team with a bunch of boys). And high school boys are all jerks, so that's nothing to be upset about.

Red Sox and Marlins are my main teams, though I also follow the Cardinals, Royals, Rangers, and somewhat the Pirates. Red Sox were first, though; I grew up a Sox fan and have added the other teams over time with the help of friends and DirecTV Extra Innings. /random ( ... )

Yes, I was in the AIM chat. :) Ah, yes, I know the feeling of hate given off by AOL/AIM all too well. LOL I'm also on Tumblr, too. My name is "eldworlordarabianhorsepride".

I do have a love for the Red Sox, and one of my favorite ex-Tigers went to the Marlins (Robertson).

OH, PLEASE TAKE ROBERTSON BACK. Dude is so inconsistent and the Marlins have better starters in AAA right now. I have no idea why he's still in the rotation (besides the fact that they're the Marlins and they hate my happiness, that is).
