You might also look into getting some training as a flight attendant. You'd get to travel, and, given the current attitude about airline safety and the necessity for hiring personnel trained in self defense due to 9/11, the airlines will consider your martial arts skills to be a big plus.
I don't think the military is going to give you the freedom you want, and it comes with a very steep price... not just danger, but being forced to use the skills they give you to do their bidding, which these days is not neccessarily so honorable. If you don't like it, you're also stuck. Why do you think there are rules like that? Because so many people decide they want to get out once they get in, but the army can't afford to waste all the resources on people who won't stick around. Even though joining the army is made out to be such a brave decision, in my experience the friends of mine that have enlisted are th eones who don't have the gall to make their own way in life, to make their own opportunities, tot find their own training, to put themselves towards what they want. They join because they 'don't know what else to do' and your entry makes it sound like the same thing. It's a huge investment to sign your life over to a currently questionably organization because you feel you need to do more with your life... I think you

Oh, you don't need another style if you're with Wah Lum, since it's the best one ;) but it's always good to know other ways so you can fight more knowledgeably against them, etc. But no... Wah Lum stands on its own. Oh does it stand on its own!
Goodness, that would certainly be an immense change in your life's direction. Since you have clearly been giving it a great deal of thought and have sought out the proper information, I'm not going to attempt to dissuade you from your decision. I just truly hope that things go well. The worrier in me is admittedly a bit anxious.
I didn't post that to argue with people. Marion, I've been thinking over this for months, if not years. Do you really think there's anything you can tell me that I haven't already considered? I have studied bodyguard work daily to figure out what I needed to get involved in it. I have studied all the paths to get into it. I have talked to all the branches of the military about my goals. I have talked to former and current soldiers and bodyguards. I've done my own research for months. I've weighed the benefits as well as the sacrifices involved with several various jobs. I've agonized and lost sleep over the possibility of what I might have to do if I enlist and how it would affect my family should anything happen to me. And I've tried to base my decisions on all these things. If I do this, it won't be something I've taken lightly. And I am extremely worn out because of it. But I would never do something this significant any other way

I didn't mean an argument about the whole joining the military thing.
Just the way you seem to think that a desk job is not worthwhile. At least that's how it came out in your post.
If you are ok with the consequences, then go ahead. I just don't see you as the military type. It's the blindly following orders thing that I can't swallow. :-P

I'm pretty sure the shrine you're talking about is over in Orlando. One day, I'd like to check it out.

Hey, if I do end up going, write me a letter sometime. I'm told that letters are some of the few things we get to look forward to in boot camp.
