I'm confused

I’m sure by now that everyone in Rennie-dom is aware that there’s going to be a "Paddock Party" up at Tux on May 14 to raise money to repair the paddocks for the horses. I do not have a problem with people pitching in (either labor or $) to fix something that needs fixing... sometimes it’s the best & fastest way to get things done, and it usually ( Read more... )

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about it...just knew something didn't seem right.
You pretty much summed it all up in your post. I agree.

I'm all for the horses having a safe and clean place to reside, but WHY is REC not paying? It's to REC's benefit. I mean they can't NOT have jousts. No jousts and they lose a huge crowd pleaser, which will lead to lost revenue. So how can they decide to not pay to fix the things that need fixing? I mean I can only guess that they are refusing to pay to fix things since this party was organized to raise the money to do it.
I hope the money they aren't spending on the paddock is going towards *something* that needs fixing, like say the freaking camp bathrooms for example.

I don't have any answers, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this.

You aren't the only people wondering, and so I stuck my neck on the line and posted a note on the performers board (where the party is being organized) that said the following. If I get an explanation I'll let you know.

Ok, I don't want to start an argument or offend anyone, but when I've been telling people about the party/advertising several of them have said something along the lines of...

"jousting is a major source of revenue for REC, they make a lot of profit off of it, why aren't they paying for the repairs?"

... and I have no way to answer them. I'm just letting people know, because it's been brought up often enough that it might affect attendance/contributions. Especially since it's a topic of conversation in several live journals and live journal communities frequented by local rennies.
