Mr C is complaining about jet-lag. Our biggest time difference (well, myself and the kids) has been three hours between here & Beijing. We'll be flipping things totally over when we go to the US. I haven't had to think about this before, but I am finding myself wondering how to manage jet-lag not just for myself, but for a five year old, two year ( Read more... )

Haven't tried it for jetlag, but I'm using a combination of melatonin and bright light therapy to reset my body clock back a few hours. My sleep specialist said he often recommends melatonin for jetlag. Might be worth looking into.

I never found a problem going there, it's the coming back to Aus which can be hard. I've always attempted to eat the right meal at the right time - eg have breakfast at US breakfast time on the way back and at Aus breakfast time on the way home. Not sure what else works, but the light dark stuff as Ant says and your fb friend are also the usual.

It's not that bad, actually, at least for grown-ups. It's such a long trip that by the time you get there, you're totally exhausted. You just have to try to stay awake 'til the first evening and then you'll go to sleep ans wake up more-or-less in the morning.

If you can sleep on the plane, catch a flight that is as much in darkness as possible (I think the one that leaves mid-afternoon might be the best, but check with the airline). It's much easier to go to sleep several hours early than stay awake for many more hours especially when you are little. Happily, the plane is darkened for quite a long period of time, but it's worth giving the airline a call to find out which one will have the longest sleep time available ( ... )

I traveled with the littlies to Europe, and I found it wasn't so bad - the kids woke at the crack of dawn but as pepperbeast says, it was such a long and exhausting flight the timezones didn't really come into it. I just rolled with it, really, and they came right pretty soon. Took about a week.
