Trees are a recurring theme in Chuang Tzu. Just as Lao Tzu uses the illustration of the Uncarven Block (P'u), Chuang uses the tree to illustrate the nature of things, purity, and the inherent "usefulness" of all things, challenging our homo-centric view of how things must be made use of and utilized.
