Final Decisions?

Mar 18, 2010 13:56

I know it's still a bit early in the game for this, but has anyone else made a final decision yet?

I accepted Brown's offer on Monday (for the PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies).

Would love to hear where everyone else is going to end up!

Congrats, Dolorelei!

And thanks, Saunders--I might very well be picking your brain about Providence sometime soon!

I accepted Brown's offer on Friday for the PhD in English Literature -- while at Brown! youmakemedie and I did it at the same exact time. :)

Oh that's great! You may have very well articulated these previously, but what are your research interests?

20th century Asian-American/African-American literature and critical theory (feminist, queer, postmodern, postcolonial, minority). I am particularly interested in the hyphen that encapsulates the spaces between identities (i.e. gender/sexuality/race/ethnicity/class/ability) wherein intersectional violence occurs.

What are your interests?

Wow...Brown got lucky this year--THREE WGI'ers accepted and it's not even April yet!

Congrats, folks!

The Brown English cohort is projecting to be VERY LARGE this year.

Really? What numbers are they aiming for? They made 19 offers and landed 6 people last year. I think they made 21 offers or so this year? How many do they think they'll end up with?

Right now? We're looking at 8 or 9 already. They were aiming for 6-7, but I don't think they realized how few offers some of us had.

Congratulations on accepting! Ahhhh, so exciting!

What are your plans in the interim?

Thanks! I've been out of school for a year and a half, so I'll continue working my corporate day job until the end of July and then make the move!

Ah, corporate jobs are killers. They're great for paying off all the credit card debt (yikes!) I somehow managed to pick up during my undergrad years. I have a feeling, for all of us who took time off between undergrad and grad, that the final day of working 9-5 will be a beautiful day.

Congrats again! What's your focus inside of theater and performance studies?

My corporate job has been fairly cushy--did all my apps at work, and I will be able to pay off that deb, get a new computer, and maybe even purchase furniture for my new apt in Providence! Once I've done all of those things, I'll be quite happy to move on.

I'm interested in (the intersection of) queer theory and disability studies, particularly looking at 20th century popular performance (musical theatre, vaudeville, medicine shows, television).
