i have come to realise that no matter what you do someone else will be better at it than you. and that is a shame.

true but you can use that as more incentive to do better/push yourself harder.

also no matter what you do there will always be someone worse at it than you.

you could go crazy thinking about stuff like this.

maybe you should think about it this way: (assuming you're talking about cutting hair), you can cut hair and not be the best at it, or you can go do something else that you don't enjoy and not be the best at that.
