For the most part, It's been too quiet. What the hell, Discedo? You're not following your logarithmic pattern.

... Not that I mind of course. Not as much stupidity over the comms.

[Clear night. Most nights in Discedo are, right now; he's not expecting that to last.

Not having bothered to answer Minamimoto's whinging over the network, Mello's taking all those stairs for the umpteenth time in as many days; he's pretty fit, so he arrives only somewhat winded.

It's chilly on the roof, but it's got a good view and few places to hide. He shrugs further into his jacket when he steps out, but raises his head to look for the mathematician, whichever shadow he and his outfit have managed to get lost in.]

I'm here.

[This sounds like it's going to be a while; his legs are getting stiff in the wind, anyway, so he finds somewhere nearby to perch, and motions with what's left of the chocolate.]

You got it.

Shoot.

[He finds a place nearby to sit; he has difficultly standing (or sitting) still for so long.]

I was supposed to be the new Composer ... or rather, that was my desired solution. Started my calculations soon after joining the Reaper ranks. At the speed of 299,792,458 m/s, I worked my way up the ranks and eventually became an Officer.

Right, so second week I was the Game Master. Ended up the Composer himself was playing the Game that week with his little proxy; Saw him go after the radian the day I tried to off him. Megs was a fucking pushover. That factor was quite an advantage. He had no idea what I was after, and let do what I want when I want because he thought I'd have complete erasure, but that wasn't part of my equation. The Taboo Noise were a zetta big help at eliminating my competition; they went after Players and Reapers alike. I wanted to make sure no one got to my prize before I did.

[The glint in his eyes gives away his true nature; his thirst for power, obsession and questionable sanity unending will.]Yes, at the end ( ... )

[He lets Sho talk in silence, watching his expression and seeing things he understands increasingly reflected back; this is a guy with something to prove, something to make his at all costs.

The difference is in the lessons learned.

Mello can work with that--no, he can use that, because he'll be the one with all the cards, for now. (He could play Go Fish with this hand, too.)]

So, you refined yourself...? Explain the concepts of Noise and Taboo Noise. You haven't done that yet.

And who's this proxy? First I've heard of him.

[He doesn't mention the ending, for now, because it's not relevant just yet.]

Proxy's name is Neku Sakuraba. Composer killed him the day I attempted to get the Composer, I assume to play the game in his place. I mean, it'd make a zetta lot sense because Steroids was filling in as a proxy from Megs. [He grins.] He's insignificant ( ... )

[If he were less cautious, Mello would be disagreeing with that assessment of proxies--he's seen what a well-picked proxy can do. (Not firsthand, but L's word is reliable enough.)

He accepts the longwinded, incredible explanations with little change in expression; despite the blend of shinigami and skepticism he's basing his credulity on at the moment, it's in his best interests to hear this out to the end.]

And what's the practical difference between original Noise, and Taboo Noise? In terms of, say, physiology, or behavior...?

I'm guessing there's a reason you turned yourself into a Taboo one, and not just your average Noise. [Although the name is something of a tip-off; dark magicks and all that. Mello's never been one for assumptions, though.]

Well zetta duh! In power Taboo Noise > Regular Noise x 10. They attack anyone. Reaper or Player, it doesn't matter. They can take similar forms are the noise, but are black and grey in color. According to my calculations, I should have had enough power to take down the Composer. And because they are not created naturally, it was much more probable for me to return with my thoughts and my will rather than become not much more than thoughtless beast. Of course, there were side-effects I hadn't added to my calculations, mainly physical distortion, but they were minor details in comparison and honestly it was zetta impressive.

[He starts to pick at the built up filth under his fingernails.]

[Physical distortions in exchange for retaining his mental capacity...? At least he seems to have thought that far ahead; they'll see soon enough.

--Lightly.] Sounds like you miscalculated.

How much do you understand about the Composer's powers, anyway? And while you're at it, you might as well properly detail your own.

Yeah. [He laughs bitterly.] It happens on a zetta rare occasion. The Composer is extremely powerful, yes, but he is not all-powerful. I think I've said this, but he's the only radian with enough power to bring someone back to life. He makes the rules for the Game and UG Shibuya itself, and unlike Reapers, his powers are not suppressed in the RG. Learned that the zetta hard way.

[He pauses, quickly getting lost in his own thoughts. The expression on his face hints at confusion and frustration.

He finally mutters.] Not zetta sure anymore. The numbers don't add up.

[Mello can read between the lines well enough to start to get a coherent picture of the events, and he's also starting to get a clearer look at who Minamimoto Sho had been (still is, for the most part).

It's pretty funny, when he thinks about it in the grand scheme of things.

And a raised eyebrow for the additional commentary.]

What aren't you sure about?

[Sho struggles to come up with the right way to put this. The thoughts are still scrambled, and hastily tries to organize them. He hates feeling unsure; it feels too weak.]

What happened in between my end there and me waking up here, besides those hectopascals putting in the chip. I died as Noise. Zetta obviously, I'm not now. It makes ZERO sense.

[He waits out the confusion, nibbling quietly on the last of his chocolate and enjoying the normally bold mathematician's discomfiture. This is Mello's field, after all--cajoling and taunting and sometimes plain strongarming information out of people.

Beneath all that, he's also a shrewd listener, whatever Wammy's had to say about it. Just because he sometimes chooses to disregard what he's heard...]

The most obvious move is to blame the chip. It's the variable we have the least amount of information on.

Alternately, I can't theorize any further without knowing more. So, let's talk powers. What you were capable of, specifically, as a Reaper--and what you could do as a Noise. As detailed as possible.

COMMENTLOG. whatthefactor October 29 2008, 22:56:30 UTC
[He's considered the chip variable as the most likely cause. Sho was, however, unsure of what would happen afterwards. After several moments of silence, he shakes off the atypical feelings and replies with his usual confidence.]

Okay, powers. As a Reaper, I could hear the thoughts of--damn those radians had such pointless thoughts--and imprint ideas to the factoring hectopascals in the RG. Create Noise, use psychs which are zetta abilities are available to those who can use them with pins ... Hm. Teleportation. Enhanced strength, speed, and stamina. And I could transform into a zetta different Noise. Oh! And the energy blasts were zetta sweet.

As a Taboo Noise, I could no longer create Noise, but that wasn't a factor. Those enhanced traits and some abilities as a Reaper were further enhanced by ≥ x3.

It's zetta unlikely I missed anything. That's about it.

... You're telepathic? [He's not sure what to think about that; so he goes for the knee-jerk reaction: more details, details, details.]

Sounds like a pretty mixed bag. One other thing here: if the Taboo Noise refinery techniques are, as you said, taboo, they'd be kept under lock and key by--let's see--the Composer, wouldn't they?

HAH! [He grins deviously.] The Composer was zetta clueless when I first began to refine the Taboo Noise. Look on his face was fucking priceless.

But yes, I am telepathic. It's not as zetta great as it sounds ... okay it is, but at first it's not much more than a headache. It'd be like listening to that Linda-radian all day.

[Okay, so that got a snort of laughter out of him. The idea of Minamimoto being stuck with Linda for company for an entire day...

Anyway, that still doesn't tell him too much more that's useful, but Mello's used to running on lack of information, too.]

If that's the case, and I'm going to guess you don't personally know of anyone else who's turned themselves into a Taboo Noise, and that you don't know the procedure for reversing the process, if it exists...

There's an 80% probability that the chip is the cause for eliminating the Taboo traits. Unless you have more information, that's the best chance you've got.
