[Public Audio]

I want everyone to listen to me, very carefully.

I know this seems swell and wonderful and exciting, but -

[Ugh ugh ugh. Not again. Urgently, she continues:]Get to the beach. Get to the beach and back on the boat as quickly as possible. Don't stop to pet the dinosaurs. Don't try to observe their behavior or take photos or ride ( Read more... )

If we live through this, I'll be sure to remind you of that compliment.

I've been through this before.

Too much television. It's desensitized people; they're unable to rely on their natural instinct for self-preservation when they see a dinosaur come traipsing toward them.

Are you all right? Is someone with you?

...How about sending us picture files to go with names?

[There's a long - no, very long - pause. As though she's deciding whether to respond to this or not. When she does speak, her tone is clinical. She doesn't know you, Hoffman. Just reporting back.]

[...cryptic silence is cryptic.]

...This is the shit you went up against.

[Another very long silence, and then this, as the only reply:]

Wait, the little ones are poisonous?

Bloody hell. We got off easily.

The bite induces a sort of lethargy. Enough bites and you don't care that they're eating your face.

Bugger. Maybe that's why I-well, it was only a scratch, or so I thought at the time, and we chased them off and got clear of them.

Disinfect it.

...Una, you should know...I don't know if these are the same animals, but the ones I studied...

[Paaause.]

They were infected. It was a prion disease contracted from ground-up sheep in the feed they were given. Like mad cow disease or scrapie. You need to clean out that wound. A scratch might not have done it, but if there was any fecal matter -

Just clean it.

Um...

You might want to mention that the stripy ones also seem to be really, really smart. We kind of got surrounded and jumped and they were using team tactics better than some mutants I know. If it wasn't for Luke and Franklin and Tony I'd be meat right now. [She did OK herself, but just has to get in a shoutout for her boys! <3]

I didn't expect anyone to stick around long enough to find out how smart they are. When someone tells you to run, you do it when it comes to carnivores.

I'm glad you're safe.

Wasn't an option until we fought them for a while. They surrounded us. Once they were backed off we got the hell out, but...eek.

Their eyes are almost scarier than their claws.

Anyway, I am keeping everything you said in mind. We're heading home as soon as we get past this stupid fence...

I wish I'd known they were pack hunters before I ran into them. [Not a blame. He's just never seen the movie.]

...Jumpers, you say? [Note to self, remember to compensate if they try to pick off kills later.]

Jumpers. They can jump pretty damned high.

And they're smart. You're lucky to be alive.

They seemed to be eager to run. But I'll take your advice into consideration.

They aren't poisonous?

The raptors aren't, no.

[Muttering:]

...How did I wind up away from the groups that are making them run away?
