Summary: Jake visits Van in LA for the second time…
Inspired by a certain person’s new profile pic.

The closer the plane got to LAX, the more apprehensive Jake got. His palms were so clammy that he kept wiping them on his jeans. Finally giving into temptation; he ordered a JD over ice; as much to have something to do with his hands as to calm his restless nerves.

As he stared at the ice swirling around in his plastic cup he couldn’t help thinking about the last time he headed out to the West Coast to see Van…

The more bars they visited the more unsteady on their feet they became and their laughter became more uncontrollable. They egged each other on and by the end of the night they were leaning against each other to stop themselves falling over in a fit of giggles; stopping almost every passer by on the sidewalk to ask if they knew who they were.

They almost fell into Van’s apartment after calling it a night; an unsteady flurry of arms and legs.

Van just remembered to shut the door behind him before stumbling over to the couch and collapsing down next to Jake.

'So… how many people do you think recognised us?!’ Van asked in a breathless voice; trying to contain another fit of giggles as he vividly remembered Jake lurching unsteadily towards a woman to ask the question and then apologising profusely for almost knocking her down as he tripped over his own feet.

‘I don’t know… kinda lost count… after our…erm… um… seventh drink?’ Jake slurred slightly as he rested back against the couch; shoulder easing with comfortable familiarity against Van’s. ‘But that cab driver definitely recognised us’ Jake nodded his head vigorously; regretting the sudden movement almost immediately as the room started spinning.

Van shook his head and turned slightly to give Jake a lop sided grin. ‘Actually… I think he thought we were coming on to him!’ Every time the driver had looked in the rear view mirror, they had stared intently at him and gave him their best Luke and Noah poses to get him to recognise them before collapsing back against each other and giggling. ‘He probably thought we wanted a threesome!’ Van smirked.

‘Wow… really… a threesome?!’ Jake thought it was funny that someone would think him and Van were together like that and couldn’t help but break into laughter again. Laughter that faded when he saw a look of… something indescribable… flash across Van's face. Was that hurt he saw in Van’s expressive hazel eyes?

All of a sudden Jake seemed to notice just how close they were sitting and instead of drawing back he found himself edging closer to Van; unable to resist touching Van’s forearm gently. ‘I’m sorry Van’ Jake started; thinking, in his less than sober state, that he’d offended Van by his laughter ‘I didn’t mean to…’ Jake’s voice faltered as his eyes focused on Van’s lips; as if noticing the plump fullness of them properly for the first time.

‘I…’ he tried to start again but suddenly he found himself wondering what it would be like for Jake to kiss Van instead of Noah kissing Luke. He couldn’t resist leaning closer as he spotted Van’s tongue resting beyond those parted lips; almost as if it were poised ready to slip between his own lips and caress his own tongue.

‘Jake?’ Van asked in confusion as he saw Jake leaning in .

Jake closed the rest of the gap and pressed his lips to Van’s; gently almost tentatively, wondering what the response would be. He pulled back slightly, just enough to be able to look Van in the eye; searching the hazel hue for a sign of understanding and encouragement.

Even in his alcohol clouded brain Van didn’t think this was a good idea… knew they probably shouldn’t cross this line but as he stared into Jake’s cornflower blue eyes he found himself not caring anymore.

He crashed their lips together; ignoring the niggling doubt at the back of his mind… that this wouldn’t work… couldn’t work… Jake was straight wasn’t he?

Jake’s lips on his and his strong fingers tangling in the blonde locks that were just long enough to start to curl into the back of his neck, pulling him closer, deeper into the kiss urged him on and Van felt himself getting lost in the kiss; tongue flicking in to caress Jake’s

‘Vaaan’ Jake breathed into the kiss when he felt Van’s hand snake sensuously down his chest to palm his hardening cock through the material of his jeans.

Suddenly this wasn’t moving fast enough for Van as everything fell into place and this just seemed so right… almost like the next obvious step in their relationship. He slid of the couch, smirking at the whine from the loss of contact that escaped from Jake’s lips, and knelt on the floor in front of Jake. Placing both his hands on Jake’s inner thighs he nudged them further apart and eased into the gap.

Van slid both his hands up from Jake’s thighs, over jean glad hips to come to hover over Jake’s belt buckle.

He looked up at Jake, pausing to silently check that this was ok… that this was what they both wanted. His breath caught in his throat as Jake looked down on him with such an intense look of want that it left him in no doubt.

‘So hot’ Van murmured almost to himself as he traced his fingertips gently over the expanse of skin that was revealed when he eased up Jake’s grey t-shirt.

Jake gasped as he felt Van’s fingers touch him in a place where he never thought they would and he groaned as those fingers swirled meaningless patterns in the dark trail of hair that lead down under his belt. He pushed his hips eagerly forward, wanting Van to stop teasing him; his hard cock increasingly uncomfortable in the confines of his jeans.

‘Van’ Jake almost sighed in relief when Van made short work of his belt buckle and zip before delving in eagerly to finally release Jake from his underwear; pulling him through the opening.

Van had to pause for a moment, just to take in the sight before him… it sent a thrill of excitement and amazement that they were about to take this step coursing through his body; making his own cock twitch in response.

‘So beautiful’ Van breathed out as he leaned in closer, lips poised to engulf the tip.

‘Please… Van’ Jake begged for more as Van’s hot breath blew tantalisingly across Jake’s sensitive head.

Van smiled up at Jake; knowing the sensations he was going through only too well ‘It’s ok… I got you… I got you’.

Van wasted no more time and, in one fluid movement, took as much of Jake into his hot moist mouth as he could.

‘Fuck… Van!’ Jake’s fingers found themselves tangled again in Van’s hair without him being entirely sure how they got there. All he knew was the mind-blowing feeling of Van’s lips on him; working expertly up and down his length. Just for a second, the thought of just how Van had got so good at this entered his head and he found himself jealous of not being the first to share this experience with Van. He pushed that thought out of his head and concentrated on the erotic sensation of Van’s mouth.

When he felt Van’s fingers reach further into the gaping opening of his undone jeans and cup and roll each of his balls in turn, he knew that he wasn’t going to last long.

He tried to warn Van; pulling gently on his hair, ‘Van… I’m gonna…’. It was too late and he shuddered his release into Van’s mouth.

‘Mmmh’ Van hummed his approval around Jake’s shrinking cock as he sucked him dry; palming his own hard cock through his jeans...

‘We are about to make our descent into LAX. Please return your seats to the upright position and fasten your seat belts’, the announcement over the intercom cut through Jake’s thoughts and he swallowed hard; trying to get his brain together.

He watched the Flight Attendants preparing the passenger cabin for landing but he wasn’t really paying attention to what they were doing. Instead he found himself thinking back to when they had woken up the next morning.

They were sheepish around each other as they moved uncertainly around the bedroom; unsure whether they had done the right thing or had just done something really stupid in an alcoholic haze.

When they had separately showered and dressed, they had sat down opposite each other at the kitchen counter, each nursing a cup of strong coffee and a throbbing headache. In the cold light of day they agreed that it had been a drunken mistake and they should just forget that it had ever happened.

As Jake left Van at the airport to head back East to New York, they had agreed to keep in touch.

And Jake tried… he really did. But every time he spoke to Van… he couldn’t get past what had happened and he found that a part of him… an increasingly large part of him wished that they had made a different decision that morning… but it was too late now and that ship had sailed.

It got to the stage where he wasn’t able to return Van’s calls or reply to his messages; it was just too painful and the calls and messages eventually stopped coming.

Then months later… out of the blue Van sent him a message asking him what he was doing for the 4th of July; inviting him over if he was free. Jake could tell by the rambling words and tone in the message that Van wasn’t sure how the invitation would be received… and he felt a pang of guilt at the part that he had played in their relationship ending up like this. Suddenly he wanted to see Van again… he missed his best friend.

So he accepted and here he was, nervously waiting for the plane to land…

As he strode down the concourse, carry on flung easily over his shoulder, he scanned the waiting crowd for Van. He gasped when he saw Van; convinced he would have walked past him if it hadn’t been for the small uncertain wave and that dimpled smile of his.

'Van!’ Jake greeted him in surprise. Van’s hair was the longest and darkest Jake had ever seen it; reaching down almost to his shoulders and errant strands fell forward to frame his stubbly features. It took all of Jake’s willpower not to reach forward and brush them back behind his ear; grateful for the fact he had agreed to Van’s suggestion that he picked Jake up from the airport.

He settled instead for pulling him into a hug; sighing with relief as he felt Van’s strong arms circling round his back to return the hug.

‘I’m growing it for a new part’ Van explained almost shyly when they parted as he reached up and self consciously tucked the loose strands back behind his left ear; almost as if he could read Jake’s mind.

‘Really?! That’s awesome!’ Jake replied, smarting a little that this was the first time he was hearing about it.

Van smiled self - deprecatingly. ‘Thanks. It’s… erm…ah… good to see you. I almost didn’t think you’d come’ Van murmured as he met Jake’s gaze.

Jake felt his heart break a little as he saw the sadness and the hurt in his friend’s eyes; knowing that he had caused that. ‘I’m so sorry. I… I didn’t mean to lose touch… it was just…’ Jake’s voice faltered, not really knowing how to explain what he felt… not really knowing what he felt.

‘It’s ok’ Van waved off the apology; seeing the heartfelt emotion in Jake’s eyes ‘You’re here now… that’s all that matters’.

Jake nodded and smiled gratefully.

‘Come on’ Van said, more confidently… this might not have been such a bad idea after all. ‘Let’s get you settled’ he said as he turned to leave Jake to follow him to the parking lot…

Jake stood in Van’s apartment and looked around; nothing had changed. Sure… Van’s comic collection stacked on the bookcase had grown and his DVD collection had spilled over in to stacks in front of the stand but essentially the room was just the same as it had been the last time he was here.

His eyes were drawn involuntarily to the couch and he felt stirrings deep within at the memory. Shit… coming here was a bad idea! Could he deal with being this close to Van again and just being friends…did he even want that?! Nothing seemed to make sense anymore.

‘You hungry? We could order take out… if you want. I wasn’t sure… so I didn’t cook anything’ Van asked; startling Jake a little.

‘I… I’m really tired… what with the flying and everything. I think I’ll just head to bed’ Jake shrugged his shoulders apologetically, desperately needing a little time to pull his thoughts together.

‘Ok… well… if you sure. Just call me if you need anything’ Van replied a little bemused as he watched Jake head for the spare bedroom; wondering just exactly how the next few days would work out…
