A very good weekend... that came to an angry end

Aug 10, 2009 21:14

I was up in Sydney for the weekend.

I had drinks and a long chat on Friday with a friend I hadn’t seen in months.

I played rugby on Saturday with the Convicts for the first time since May, and managed to score the only try of the game.

On Sunday I went into town and had lunch with Lis whom I knew through the under 30s and Mitzi whom I was meeting for ( Read more... )

So sad about the dog ...

Read your journal about your trip. Great pics and sounds like for all the rants ;) it was a wonderful experience.

We're both recovering re the dog. To have a dog literally dying in the passenger seat is about the worst way I can think of to end a weekend.

And I do like to rant, but it was valuable as experiences go.

Hey whip,

That's awful about the dog, i'm glad you and Ms Jadis cared enough to take care of it. i bet the dogs family are glad you did as well.

Hugs to both of you.

cheers
mira

It has entirely overshadowed everything else on the weekend. I would kind of like to talk to the family, but I suspect that won't happen.

Great job that you both did.

Unfortunately there are some people out there for whom life of any sort is cheap. One has to wonder how they came to this frame of mind. It cannot have been pleasant.

Still, the puppy experienced love to the very end. It would have been upsetting for the vet staff too I am sure.

I have taken quite a few dogs and cats off the road myself - all dead - including 2 of my own. I am sure the owners would have been comforted that their dog was so lovingly cared for in its final time.

A comment from Mitzi G Burger:

What a moving experience for all the tragic light it sheds on human callousness.

So often I feel the wrong life gets taken. Where I lived in Thailand there were dogs being raised as viscious guard dogs and they were frequently left outside the gates of their premises. These were the most unbest friend to man you could ever imagine. They were like Jaws with paws.

After a frightening near miss of their viscious bark and looming bite, I cursed the owner who was within in earshot shaking a vaguely effecitve broomat his beast that he would be fucked by a buffalo. I extend that honour to the driver of the white car who took out a life that was not his to decide the fate of.

Like I said, I'm glad I could be there. If we had left a few minutes earlier, if I hadn't stopped for petrol, if I had taken a different route, we would have passed by unaware.

And f*cked by a buffalo? Do you know where we can find one?

That's what I mean when I say that the punishment for being the kind of person who intentionally kills a dog is being the kind of person who intentionally kills a dog. To have such warped views on life that a concept as wonderful and rewarding as compassion becomes unintelligible is a hell I can scarcely imagine.
