I've played a variation of that game called "Mafia" which is mobsters vs. civilians! At least I think it was the same. We didn't have a board, just cards that someone made on the spot.

It is totally the same game. Werewolves is just a fancier packaged version that has some neat rule variations.

I was playing with these Oxford students I had just met, and I remember thinking "This is the cheapest (looking) game ever," but I didn't say anything. I was mafia and doing my best to stay off the radar.

Yes ! We love that game too. It was created by three French designers, after an original old russian game.

Yeah! The game has a really rich history! Plus it's just so much darned fun!
