New nerd skills

I didn't think this day would ever come and I have made fun of this in the past, but I was putting color names onto swatches for my work today and I rejected 3 fonts because I didn't like the kerning.

Also I keep seeing "Papyrus" and it's starting to get on my nerves.

About 15 years ago we were visiting a friend-of-a-friend who, while giving us a tour of his work, went on a 30 minute rant about how he walked out of a museum because they used some crappy font and the kerning was awful and it made them look like morons (and so on). I had never hear the term 'kerning' before. I thought he was a kook. Apparently he was my future.

Huh...whadayaknow...I'd been kerning all these years purely by instinct, without knowing either the word or the theory.

But I've been thinking about putting (fountain) pen to papyrus for some time now. :)

I'm guessing you know this but (in case anyone else doesn't - and if they aren't font geeks - why should they?) I was referring to the font named "Papyrus". Which is a perfectly lovely font and I've used it quite a bit myself but I'm just seeing it EVERYWHERE.

If you get your hands on some actual papyrus, as in ancient Egyptian paper, then I would love to see it!

I feel the same way about Papyrus. I think it's the new Comic Sans. :)

Good for you. Bad kerning is annoying. Of course, there's always manual kerning, which is what I did here:

And I'm not even a font geek.

Papyrus is a good font, a free font. The really groovy one is calligrapher, but you gotta pay for it. It's like re-channeled writing.
