Deleting your life

Jul 03, 2017 02:18

I have to admit, I haven't looked at my profile page in quite awhile, but I did just now, and I must say I was surprised and pretty disappointed to see how many familiar usernames showed up in strikethrough type: meaning of course that the account had been deleted and purged ( Read more... )

A good example of someone who wrote quite eloquently and in great, interesting detail about their life, and all of it gone now. A real shame.

I've been noticing that even looking through communities I've made entries on. Some were even notable members at one point. It's kind of sad to see. :c

I will not delete my LJ account unless the entire site goes down, because well then its out of my hands. I don't use my DW,its just something I have as a back-up in case that day comes.

I agree that some journals people would just like to look through even if they aren't updated anymore. Your account has a long history to it for example.

The communities here have suffered even worse than the regular users have. Most are completely dead now. Heck, I don't even post anymore to the ones I started myself!

"I don't give a shit about what other people write, I only care about me."

That unfortunately is the mind set of many furs.

Most people in general seem to feel like that, too. The level of narcissism and lack of caring for others that is evident in our society today is truly frightening.

Only one person on my mutual friends list did that but I'm not sure what her DW is. :(

It is a shame that a number of people are leaving LJ. Yeah, the last couple years of my life are a couple of years I'd rather forget but it doesn't mean I'd delete my LJ.

The hemorrhaging is nothing like it used to be. Back around 2011-2012, it seemed like I'd lose 2 or 3 from my friends list every week. The people who are still here now seem to be here for good, though. No danger of them leaving. Or maybe they might yet leave LJ for DW, but at least I can still follow them there.

Ah. I wonder what happened with LJ to make that happen. :S

Partly it was due to other alternatives showing up, but also due to a series of bad management decisions, including the use of advertising on free accounts, going closed-source, trying to be something they weren't, and of course ultimately selling out.

Personally I don't give a rip about how my posts are "trending" or whatever, this isn't supposed to be a social media site.

There seem to be folks who are so afraid of Russia, the NSA, or the FBI that they can't keep their journal here, and have moved to Dreamwidth or Wordpress.

Neither of which are truly "blogs" like LJ or DW.

Pretty much. Not everyone can post their thoughts in only 140 characters. :/
