It's a pity that they're closing. :(

It absolutely sucks. This puts my wife out of work by June as she works at Babies R Us. We thought they'd keep her store open as it was one of the few profitable ones in the district, but the call came Wednesday and the liquidators arrived Friday.

Oh no...

This is disastrous. What are you going to do?

I don't honestly know. At 60 she feels her options are limited to low paying positions regardless of her years of managerial experience... and she's tired of the retail BS after 40ish years with various businesses, eleven of those at Babies.

Watch, wait, plan... network, retrain, whatever. I wish she didn't have to work, but her pay exceeded my own. *sigh* I just don't know yet.

I suppose one ameliorating factor is that the young-'uns are grownups now and no longer dependent. It's rough, though, with your retirement ages approaching. I heard TRU is not giving any severance packages, but are they at least providing access to unemployment benefits?

I'm really sad about this too. v_v There are no small toy stores in my area so once Toys R US goes thats it, no more toy stores.

Two little aisles in Walmart and Target just aren't the same. I frequented Toys R US just to browse even as an adult and I still bought some things from there- like Schleich figures.

My close friend bought me the last two exclusive to Toys R US plush that I wanted for my birthday since its time is limited. It's going to lead to alot of big empty stores in the area too...

This is what happens when a giant fish gobbles up all the little fish. Truly the end on an era.

Erf, we heard this too.

For now they're saying that the Canadian Toys R Us stores will be "business as usual."
