LAYERS!!!

All my actual winter coats make me look like a marshmallow so I end up wearing my not so warm one with a few dozen layers underneath. Cute summer dresses layered over a plain long sleeved tee, then add a cardigan + blazer. Tights are way warmer than jeans and layer those too, a knit/lace pair over a solid colour and top it off with knee socks that are scrunched up/ leg warmers and a scarf and gloves!

Um, you are AMAZING. Layers definitely seem to be the key for me. I used your layering tights trick the other day and was like !!!! yay!!! Because it looks cute, too. I'm glad to see that you can be warm and stylish, too!

hahah I'm glad that worked for you!! I'm full of tricks involving tights because I decided very long that if keeping warm in the winter meant wearing jeans for six months straight I was going to kill myself. The scrunched up knee socks can be pulled up while outside to add an extra layer of warmth, push them down when you get to your destination and need to look cute again. A metallic pair of leggings under sheer tights gives you sexy shimmering legs. If your good winter coat usually ends up being black for maximum versatility, no worries you can add that pop of colour with a bright pair of tights, a printed pair is even better. I find most of the time my cute outfits stay hidden under my winter coat because it's so damn cold I never end up taking it off or even unbuttoning it, so my tights are essentially the only way to show some personality/ inject some fun into the outfit.

It's funny... I agree whole heartedly with the jeans thing. I pretty much love tights, so that trick is key for me. I have a couple of pairs of leg warmers and I'm going to be getting some actual knee socks soon, SOOO I'm on my way! AND I'm so excited to get to wear tights that are colors other than black or brown which is what I've mostly been wearing lately! And I've so been wanting the American Apparel metallic leggings, so this is the perfect reason to get them! I can't wait to play with crazy tights!

A tailored coat. I have a really nice red one that's to my knees. It cinches with a cute belt at the waist, so it's form fitting and awesome. Winter coats and jackets can be way too blimpy sometimes.

Also--if you have nothing else--get a scarf. Keeping your neck warm immediately warms up the rest of you. At the very least, get yourself a long, thick scarf.

Ya'll are cute. We got a blizzard of 20-inches yesterday. On TV, they were showing the snow in New Mexico, and how everybody there kept crashing their cars because they had no idea how to drive on slippery, snowy pavement. Ya'll are nuts :)

We are totally babies, and I know it. But man, when you don't have the right clothes for it, even a little bit 'o cold can be AWFUL.

I agree so much about blimpy coats! I still haven't found the RIGHT one, but I'm on track. And I'm finally learning how to dress myself for the chill. YAY and THANKS <3 <3

Get a good coat with biiiiiig buttons. I love those. Without a coat when it snows, you'll regret it. Also, no one doesn't look good with a scarf. It's true. Wear long sweaters.

I miss the cold...

Don't miss it! Coming back to FL put the cold in perspective for me, haha.

I'm still looking for the right coat, but it'll definitely include big buttons! And I now own about 20 scarves and am finding that they're like shoes... there's always room for more :)

How do you survive the cold? There's no way, really. Barricade the door and wait till spring. Or find an ice floe and float out to sea. These things are your only hope.

This has been my favorite word lately, but it applies in this situation.

Smartass.

I'm surprised you have cause to use that word routinely without regular exposure to me.

I know a surprising number of smartasses. That number made greater by lack of sleep and general irritation about life.

Speaking of regular exposure to you...haven't talked to you in awhile. Will you be in your office next week at all?

MISS YOU TOOO!!!! I Hope that you guys had a very happy Hanukkah??

Global warming is weird and I had no idea that she lives in Houston. I don't know her personally, but I always see her name on friend's entries... In other news, I'm finally getting the hang of layering and do appreciate the ability to add more accessories to an outfit!
