What is who_remix?
- This is a fic challenge community for all eras of Doctor Who fanfic. In the same vain as remix_redux, the challenge involves authors signing up and 'remixing' a fic. Not that we wanted to step on their toes, but this community was created after chips_remixed as it was felt that a remix challenge for the entire Who fandom, and not one pairing, was needed.

How do the spin-offs fit into this? I only have three Classic Who fic, no Nu Who or SJA, but lots of TW fic. I'm willing to remix fic from any of those categories, though. Am I allowed to sign up? If I am allowed to sign up, will you find someone familiar with TW to assign my fic to?

Even with Who-only, the different eras are a concern. Are you going to decide assignments based on what the participants say they can write? For example, most of my Who fic is Four and Sarah Jane, but I know enough to remix anything from Two, Three, Four, and Seven's era.

Thanks in advance for answering me. I really like the idea of a remix, and might try to finish a couple of WiPs in order to sign up if I need to.

TW and SJA fics are allowed, yes, and I've edited this entry to reflect that. All participants will be asked what they're comfortable writing in the sign-up post. Along with this information and looking at the fics you have already written I will assign you someone accordingly. I'm not going to assign someone something they don't want to write.

Got a bunch of questions. Do crossovers count toward the five? What if they're crossovers with SJA/TW and not a whole other fandom? Remixing remixes isn't allowed, right? If my remixee qualifies with five longer fics but I really like a drabble they did, or if crossovers don't count for qualifying but I like a crossover they did, can I remix that? How about a single chapter or scene of an epic? What's the minimum or suggested wordcount for our finished remixes? I am also curious, like the person above, if you're going to match people up by era or not. I think I can write most of it, but I don't want some poor Old Who-only fan to get stuck with all my New Who fic.

Sorry if that's an unreasonable amount of questions for one paragraph.

I am really looking forward to this. I'm gonna try and finish some WiPs in time to qualify, too.

Don't worry, your questions are all fine. I've edited this entry with the answers as I'm sure you're the not only one thinking like this.

Information such as minimum word count will be in the sign-up form post which will follow shortly.

Don't worry about assignments. I will make sure people are assigned something they are comfortable with.

Hi - I'm wondering why comments on the sign-up post are screened. I can see doing it for a traditional exchange where people are making requests, but this is just a straight-forward sign-up. I'm interested in knowing what eras/which show people are signing up for - I can't decide whether to sign up for this remix or the original one, and would pick this one for the possibility of getting to write in DW or SJA, but I don't write TW and I would rather sign up knowing that some eras are well-represented.

Thanks for any comments on this you have.

Comments are screened because - as you can probably tell from the sock - I'm a fan of anonymity. However, I do understand your concerns, and you're not the only one to have them. Because of this, I've decided to unscreen the comments so hopefully this will encourage more sign ups.

Thanks so much for taking that into consideration! I really appreciate it. I have a few RL things going on to figure out before I figure out if I can sign up for not, but I'm hoping to be able to. :D

After the assignments go out, when you choose what to remix, can you remix a story that's not included in the five the author had to be eligible to sign up, such as a drabble or something that's a crossover with a non-DW show, like in the original remix?

No. You will be sent the link to the author's fic along with a list of the stories you are allowed to remix.

In that case, when I sign up, should I list all the stories that are eligible or ineligible? My DW fic contains a variety of eligible and ineligible fics and the ones that are close to 500 will be quite hard for you to pick out and presumably increase the amount of time it takes you to match people up.

If you think doing that will be easier then please do.

Sorry, additional question: are the mods the two listed on the profile? Not that it matters, I just hate having to deal with a faceless entity.

No. The people on the profile made the layout and the header. The mods wish to remain anonymous.
