what people often forget is that the Prez of the US really doesn't have all the power we think it does. A president cannot single handedly repeal a Supreme Court decision. The second one tries, they better be succesfully impeached.

What Bush did do to make the pro-lifers happy is successfully nominate 2 supreme court justices that share their views. Its up to the court system to bring the issue back up to that level. I'm not arguing either side (Nick, you already know where I stand on the issue), I'm just spitting truth.

On Palin's 'misuse of power': shouldn't a state trooper who uses his tazer as an at-home punishment on his step son lose his job? He only got caught because he's Palin's brother in law. The crime here is the people who abuse their children and don't get caught.

The Supreme Court part you have completely right. He did appoint them, to much resistance. Nothing ever came of it though, and I felt like he just forgot about those people who's emotions he used to get elected.

I agree the trooper should be punished -- even dismissed, however that is the job of the chief of police. That guy is bad news bears it seems, but one wonders why he was not fired? Using your newly found gubantorial power to lean on people underneath you to get what you want is wrong. She lied about it, and the inquiry findings expose her lies.

My gripe is her sudden charge on abortion. At one point she doesnt talk about it, or talks around it. Now that she is in trouble its time to bring in the big issue that makes people on either side mad -- All in the name of distracting the people. Its the manipulation I hate so much, and its so transparent in her case.

well actually bush did all he could given that he was only able to appoint 2 justices. as it stands now there are 4 very conservative justices (which is not enough to overturn roe v wade which needs a majority of 5): roberts, appointed. by bush jr.; alito, appointed by bush jr.; scalia, appointed by reagan; and thomas, appointed by bush sr. there's one liberal, stevens, appointed by ford, and the rest are mostly moderate: souter, appointed by bush sr. who is criticized for "switching sides"; ginsberg, appointed by clinton; breyer, appointed by clinton; and kennedy, appointed by reagan (the most conservative of the moderates but who won't overturn roe v wade). All the moderates/liberals will not overturn roe v wade as it stands now. however, stevens, who is one of the oldest justices will certainly retire during this next presidents first term, regardless of who the president is. Also, ginsberg, who is "old and frail" will most likely retire either this term or the next, and souter, who is disheveled with the court right now will ( ... )

it wasn't a punishment. the official statement is that his step-son wanted to see how it worked and asked to do it. no shit. those alaskans are fucking crazy.

the reason this is a big deal is because there are two more supreme court judges that are older than shit and will more than likely retire within four years.

just some clarifications, tis all i got.
