i am in a rut of sorts. i'm finally getting over the january blues & i hope the valentines day present from joe [a bike!] gets a lot of use. i'm hoping to ride every day for a bit when i get home from work, but i'm nervous about riding in the street. bikers [i am looking at you rusty & des], any advice?

you should always have, like, an orange in your pocket, so that if some guy makes a right turn in front of you while you're crossing an intersection, you have enough time to pull it out and try to dent his car with it. if he gets mad just say 'well, if your car hadn't been where it was, my fruit wouldn't have hit it.'

there are so many one way streets in DSM that you might as well hop on a fairly unoccupied sidewalk instead of going a block out of your way. you just need good reaction time in case anything gets in your way. And the sidewalks are usually pretty dead, downtown, at least. if you're gonna ride on the sidewalks just watch out for really steep curbs. again, what area/streets are you riding on?
