Congratulations! I'm only up to 48 myself, and I don't think it's likely I'll make it this year. I've done it before though, so I'm not terribly worried about it.
I'm glad you liked Duma Key. Boy, we certainly have different tastes in books! But that's what's so cool about having friends far and wide. Exposure to different tastes and opinions is just part of the spice of life.
I actually keep a running list of the books read each year on my LJ. 2008's list is right here.
I'm definitely far more fiction oriented than you are. I seem to prefer a lot more genre fiction as well. There are a number of books on your list that I simply would never consider reading -- which is fine, just the different tastes involved, y'know? But I have to admit to being a little curious to see what some of them would be like, so I might try one for the heck of it one of these days.
I could never see you reading any of the dating ones, but it was important for me to do a little brush up study on that this year. The Edwidge Danticat books were all really good- I think you might like the Dew Breaker one. Are you thinking about any in particular? I know J read the Long Way Gone one, and recommended it to me. We both liked it.
Last year I only made it to like 35. I am so proud of myself!! I am currently reading 2 books that will probably start off next years list: one called "the devil's teeth" about shark study at the Farralones islands off California, and "A thousand Splendid Suns" about Afghani women. So far they're both really good! What do you have going these days?
