Have any of you ever seen the northern lights? If so, when and where were you? I've just decided that I HAVE to see them, but would like to hear other people's experiences.
I've never actually seen them, but really want to - it's just difficult to negotiate since there's no telling whether they will present themselves.
There is Canada, but I imagine you'd have to go to some pretty damn far (i.e., places where there isn't very much there). In both Iceland and Norway, I was tempted to take trips to go and see them, but in both instances time was short and it's some way to go before you're far north enough to see them properly. I think it's best to allow a few nights, in case they don't show. I don't recall off-hand when the 'season' is. You can catch glimpses of them in Northern Scotland, for example, but it's nothing quite like the full effect/
They also have something similar in the Southern Hemisphere, which I only learned a few years ago.
I've never seen them but we hope we might be able to when we're in Scotland next October. I've known people who've seen them in upper Michigan during the summer, though, so it's possible without freezing to death.
I am totally on a northern lights mission now. Strange how my brain works, all it has to do is brush past my thoughts, and it can quickly turn into a vital need! hahahaa
What time of year do you see them? I was just looking on line at pictures of them in Greenland, but that just seems SOOO COOLD regardless of when I go...
