Jeff was the first friend I made when I moved back to Florida in 4th grade. I hated leaving all my friends in Virginia, but Jeff made it a little easier by being really fun to hang out with. He was small for his age and had a quick temper, which often got him into trouble at school. He would never back down, though.

Darryl played the bass clarinet in band, and he was an interesting dude to say the least. His favorite thing to do when he saw me was to run up and jump on me, kind of like Scooby Doo would do with Shaggy. It was a bit weird and I never understood why, but it got a laugh and I didn’t mind too much.

In fourth grade, Liz was one of the two tallest people in our class. The only person who was taller was Jamie, and it wasn’t by much. I guess maybe it was because of her size, but she kind of took on the role of a class bully. And, being a girl, she could get away with a lot more than a boy could.

Alison is my good buddy Tom’s younger sister. I didn’t know her very well while Tom’s family lived in Florida - she was a few years behind us in school. When I went to Denver in 2007 for Tom’s graduation, we drove to Fort Collins for a day to hang out and tour some breweries with Alison (who was attending Colorado State) and her friend.

Chef Raoul was my boss for a few months when I worked at a Holiday Inn during my junior year of high school. I was a “utility dishwasher,” which sounds boring... But it really was a fun job! Raoul was a great boss too, despite his tendency to revise my schedule after I’d looked at it. That’s never good when you’re balancing two jobs!

I sat next to Charles for a few years in our high school band classes; he played baritone saxophone and I played tenor, so it seemed like he was always to my left. He put a lot of effort into coming up with a nickname for me for some reason, but I nixed that when the best he could come up with was “Buddha.” :-P

I have no idea what Bubba Skiddoo’s real name was... Tom just called him that one day, and it stuck. He was an extremely out-of-shape and greasy janitor at my high school, and he’d stand in the corner of the cafeteria just waiting to yell at misbehaving teenagers. Many times he barked at Tom, who was fond of shooting baby carrots across the room.

Damean was in my 9th grade English class, but I avoided him... The few times I talked to him, he really struck me as kind of a jerk. The one day, our teacher came in crying. She told us that Damean had been in a car accident... After months of rehab, he rejoined our class but it was obvious he had some brain damage.

I met Heather’s Grandpa when we went to Michigan during July in 2007. He lives in Turner - I was really surprised at how small the town was! We stayed at his house for a bit and had fun just hanging out, looking at old pictures. :-) Oh, and visiting the nearby Twining food market! We made sure to pick him up a couple scratch-off tickets.

Carol is Heather’s mom, and she was the first person in Heather’s family (besides Heather of course) I met. Actually, that happened before we started dating… Carol came with us to the annual Greek Food Festival in the fall of 2006. Since then I’ve gotten to know her well! She works in a surgery office and is a travel agent in her spare time.
