Craig lived a few buildings away from me in Augustine Club. Every once in a while, we’d meet up with Bob and Geoff and hang out - usually by the pool and jacuzzi. Craig eventually bought a boat, but unfortunately I didn’t get to go out on it with them before he moved away to Orlando. I’m not sure what he’s up to these days...

My cousin Katie is the middle child of her family - her parents are my Uncle Kevin (Dad’s brother) and Aunt Annette. She’s currently attending Samford, a school I’m familiar with because it’s where Bobby Bowden began his coaching career. :-P It kind of blows my mind that she’s in college, because I still remember her as a little girl! Rashaad was a star football player at my high school, and the rumor was he was being recruited by some big schools. He ended up going to FSU, where I was surprised to see him in my Fiction Technique class. He wore a long trench coat and contacts that removed all color from his eyes - he also insisted that the professor call him “Angel.”

Mrs. Gasaway was my 6th grade teacher. Think of Mrs. Wormwood from Calvin and Hobbes and add about 20 years or so to her... She had a reputation for being tough and mean, but I found out if you just applied yourself and did your work, you were good to go - in fact, she was quite nice! She passed away a few years ago.

Mr. Rottler always seemed like the most patient guy to me... I’m guessing it was a skill he’d simply needed to have in order to raise Derrick. :-P It was fun to sleep over at Derrick’s house; Mr. Rottler would let us rent Nintendo games, order us pizza, and then come out at 2AM and tell us yeah, you guys need to go to sleep.

Christian was in just about every jazz band I was in during junior high and high school. He was a really good percussionist and even though he could play the drums as well as anyone I’ve ever heard, his real passion was on the vibraphone. He’s kept up with it since graduating and these days is a professional musician, traveling all over the country ( Read more... )

Diane worked in the pharmacy of the Eckerd’s store that I worked in. She was also a grade behind me at Satellite, which meant that I didn’t see her much at school. I gained a TON of respect for her when the pharmacy was short-staffed one night and I ran the register. Sick old people, it turns out, are not fun to deal with!

Mr. Kreines was a friend of my high school band director, and he would sometimes step in at concerts as a guest conductor - usually when we were playing pieces he’d composed. Depending on what happened after he took his bow, we’d know how well we did... If we hadn’t played the piece to his liking, he’d immediately take off and not talk to anyone.

I met Becca on MySpace, and then we decided to meet up “for real.” I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but thankfully she was really easygoing and fun to hang out with... Not to mention very good at pool. After she kicked my butt at Halligan’s four times in a row, I found out that she actually owned her own table. :-P
