You do realize, I hope, that were I not already your minion, I would have signed on immediately upon reading this. In one post, you've managed to capture my feelings exactly. The only part of Christmas that I truly enjoy is sending cards. And every year, someone (or more than one someone) gives me a hard time about how many I send. Like it matters to them--I didn't ask them to help with the bleedin' postage, now, did I??
Mmm that is so odd because I swear my December issue of British Vogue magazine says that green is the color of the moment. And I would tend to agree as I've never seen so many green dresses in the stores in my life as I have this fall and winter. I've noticed because green is my color and I'm never able to find it. So I've been frantically buying dresses, sweaters, shirts, etc. and putting them away for when green is out. You should go back to the annoying sales lady and tell her she is so not up on the current trends!
Love it! Maybe I should do just that. Honestly, the woman was SO patronising. Granted, things go in and out of fashion, but you'd think I'd be able to find FABRIC in the colour I want. But no. So I'm guessing I might be able to get my bridesmaid dresses in - where are you? - Chicago? A bit of a trek, but I'm willing to give it a go.
I've hated X-mas for years, having worked retail for 5 years and suffering through the worst time of the year. It does traumatize you and you end up being a Scrooge long after you escape the madness that is X-mas retail. I'm just now starting to like it again and that is due strictly to my children. My oldest is now of an age that she gets excited about such stuff so we do too.
Your mom sounds like my dad and your dad sounds like my FIL when it comes to the headache of gift-giving. And I refuse to keep up with the Joneses and put myself into hock every year. It just isn't worth it.
So take the season in stride. Enjoy your two weeks off, sip on a latte or two and order your gifts on line from the clearance section. And comfort yourself that it's almost over. For this year at least.
