OMG. THANK YOU. All of this is so damn true. I was told it had horrible reviews so I let my hype train back it up and at while I enjoyed it as a film, it definitely was not what I was expecting.
On Jean: Holy shit, as one of the most powerful mutants on earth, you would think she'd do wayyyyyy more but the writers didn't know how to utilize her better??? Yeah, they had to build tension and story but... but... go watch some of the classic cartoon or read the source material???
On Jubilee: First off, I was like HELL YES FIREWORKS! and then.... its like the put the firework laws into place in the film? WTF? No name drop.
On Psylocke: Definitely underused. Not actually Asian? Yah. And uggggghhh fighting in heels doesn't actually work. WOO how mysterious. You could have had Lucy Liu for crying out loud. She could have killed it.
On Storm: She is such a strong character. SO STRONG. In personality and actual powers and they treated her truly like one of the "children". Instead of the goddess of nature. *screams*
Yeah, Jean basically treated her TK like an extra pair of hands until she went full Phoenix.
This is too fucking depressing to fact-check, but I heard a rumor that Jubilee's powers WERE shown onscreen in the mall scene. But most of the mall scene got cut. Of course, another part of this rumor is that her powers were changed from fireworks to energy blasts . . . which I almost feel like they did just so they could justify cutting her out, since there are already two (koff, straight white male, koff) heroes with energy blasts in this movie. Hmpf.
Charlie's Angels is one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, so I would have loved to see Lucy Liu as Psylocke.
I'm really starting to think that Bryan Singer hates Storm & Jubilee. This is not the first time a movie directed by him has thoroughly underused them both.
