One of my loves

Last night reminded me of the many reasons I love Austin's Central Market. Market, you say, ho hum, skip. Well, this is far from just that. Because of the spring-like weather we are having (in the 70's)last night free music there was set up outside on the patio. That's my favorite place ( Read more... )

I love how life majestically lifts us up....these are the things that are indeed priceless and worth savoring and oddly enough these moments usually last us a life time.

It's good to have things in life that can surprise you in a good way.

I live in a very small town of about 800 people, went in one of the three places you can get groceries at to get some saltine crackers. I asked the woman what her minimum was for credit cards, she told me no minimum, but I felt pretty stupid putting like $3.50 on my card and her having to take a hit on the transaction fee. She said to not worry about me, then gave me a "resident" discount, taking it to something like $2.70. I had $2 cash on me, she said to bring the rest later.

It's nice when people surprise you.

I love small towns. I have a cabin in New Mexico which I miss badly. Other than nature, the people in the surroundings are mostly fantastic. Sometimes, I think that's where I really want to be. I've seen similar kindnesses; to them, it just seems normal(as it should be). Their faces seem to say, "Why would someone stiff a neighbor?" Love it.

What part of NM? We live in Cloudcroft, NE of Alamogordo. My dad grew up in Las Cruces and I have a few relatives there, I've spent a lot of time here but didn't move here until August of last year.

My cabin is in Pineywoods which is 14 miles from Alamogordo going toward Cloudcroft. I love Cloudcroft; well, really, I love the entire area. I used to live in El Paso, Texas, so I got to my cabin almost every weekend. Now I'm in Austin and it is a trip. I love it too much to give it up, however. You are most lucky to live where you do!

By the way, I'm apostate_96's mom.

I remember you describing the place when I was out there. Maybe the next time I'm out we can hit it; it sounds like a neat place to visit.

It is nice to get some positives, especially the way we are so frequently bombarded by the media about news of terror, violence, destruction, decay, dishonesty, criminal trickery, etc. It makes it way too easy to have a very distorted view of how the world is when that's all that comes at us. Finding/experiencing something sweet like that is a wonderful antidote....like a glass of cool, sweet water on a hot, muggy, smog-filled day.
