He placed a dry little kiss on his man's waiting lips, murmured "G'night, Jack," and closed his eyes. ...
but its unruly length had reminded him of their days on Brokeback...

Then Ennis carried his precious burden back downstairs - Jack smiling into Ennis's chest as the third-from-bottom step gave out an extra-large crack at their combined weights - and left him in the wheelchair in Mrs Twist's care....
... a delicious glow warmed him from within, a happiness he couldn't ignore, because Jack was alive and awake and awaiting his return at the end of the day's toil.
