I don't have much to add to what has already been said. Loved reading about day-to-day ranch life -- yes, it is just like that at times. And I hate that Alma guilted the girls into giving her Ennis' phone number but aat the same time, it was Ennis who answered so that might just sidetrack her for a little bit. Not for long though, Alma's quiet mousy exterior hides a succubus.

A succubus! Wow! I think maybe I'm a little less harsh about Alma. I feel sorry for her. Always love your comments.

This was great. Nothing happened but what's natural on a ranch. But I have a feeling that may change. I just know that was Alma that called and hung up when Ennis answered. Can't wait for Chapter 9.

Judy, it was a lovely relaxing chapter to write. All that hard ranch work was kind of soothing for me.

This story is beautiful. So atmospheric, so poetic. You are one of the very best writers in this fandom, and, believe me, I've read the lot. How you (an Australian) can get the details of everyday life in an American ranch so seemingly perfect is astounding. Can't wait for more.

Hi Robyn. Research, research, research - that's the answer :) Once I started researching I gained an enormous appreciation for men like Ennis who do this work day after day after day.

Just loved it!!!! I loved the "love bite the size of Texas," and old man Twist seeing it....loved when Ennis called Jack "baby," and loved all the conversations and looks between Jack & Ennis. Loved when Jack was thinking of how happy he was, and it was even more happy than the day old man Newsome croaked. I loved reading about their work....made me tired just thinking about all that work, and the cold cold snow/ice. You really put me right there. And I enjoyed very much the part with Ennis' girls, but that Alma, I know she's up to no good. Good thing Ennis answered the phone, I am hoping that stalls her for awhile, but I doubt it. Between her, and old man Twist sneaking around at night, makes me uneasy. Thank-you so much for this story!

I like adding the little bits of tension. Don't want readers falling asleep :)

Wow. This reminds me so much of my grandpa.

He almost missed my birth cause he was out pulling a calf...he made it just in time! He did roundup and branding and calvings until just a few months before he died of cancer.

He passed away two years ago yesterday at the age of 79-but he was alive when BBM came out. Here in Oklahoma, some of the right wingers called for boycotts, protests, things like that. Grandpa just said something like "Known alot of cowboys in my day. Some of 'em black, Indian, Mexican. Some other ones we knew was queer. Those boys that were different were the ones who worked hardest-knew they had to work twice as hard to prove themselves. I woulda taken any of those cowboys over some lazy city boy any day. Wouldn't stab ya in the back, and gave ya an honest days work."

I think Grandpa would have fit right in your story. Thank you for writing it.
