How hard of a fight Ennis put up to be what he is not and Jack worked just as hard to let him know it is love. there is no shame in love. With all the pain Ennis put Jack through and tearing himself up too, finally he can say "I love you Jack." I was in tears when Ennis thought all those horrible things as Jack made love to him almost as he was purging himself from evil, yet it was not the devil it was Jack the sweetest and gentles soul who kept giving and giving. Maybe now Ennis can finally give some back, not hold out anymore, but treat Jack the way he deserves to be treated, with love and respect.
Thank you for a wonderful chapter, looking forward to the next one, and I hope you feel better too.
Hugs

Torry, that's a great description - Ennis purging himself. That's exactly it.

Don't think I've ever read a more thorough, in-depth examination of what a man might go through in fighting to change what he is into what he thinks he should be. Yes, the inability to accept, to fight through and find himself, is a weakness, but, in the end, Ennis finds the strength to conquer his fears and place himself in Jack's loving hands, and that's a victory over his fears - a victory he never managed to achieve in the OS. And Jack too displays the depth of his love, by being able to forgive and understand what many people would never be able to deal with. This demonstrates that both Jack and Ennis are much bigger men, much nobler men, than we knew before.

This is really touching and quite beautiful and a lovely tribute to both these characters.

Well done, Friend.

Thank you so much for those comments. You know, I think one of the reasons I and others are moved by OS Jack and Ennis is their nobility. They are just ordinary men yet we recognise that "something" within them which lifts them up into a pure archetypal state. I feel that Annie Proulx imbued them with a common nobility.

Awesome.
I never use this word to comment in any other fic, I think. And thank God, I caught up with your story now because I know I would be crazy if I have to stop at chapter 9.
Your Ennis and Jack are the Ennis and Jack I first fell in love with. I don't think nobody could write like Jenna when it comes to AU story of the boy, but you do. I really am happy and glad to finally catch up with this.
I can't believe how patient Jack is. But I know it's worth it.

"Nope." Ennis sat up straight. "No, I don't need to do more thinkin. And I guess you're stuck with me till, well, till death us do part." And his cheeks flushed the most delicate and delicious rose pink.

For a moment Jack's face had the open-mouthed gape of a deep-sea fish, then he began to laugh, the kind of laughter that's already halfway to tears.

"Ennis del Mar, you are too much for me! Now, let's clear up this mess and get some sleep, before I start blubberin and makin a big girl a myself again."

Thank you!

It's my pleasure, and thank you for such a nice comment. I've tried hard to be faithful to those original characters because they are the ones I also fell in love with.

OMG, what an update - wow - I don't even know where to begin - I can only say I sincerely hope that Ennis has learned a good lesson - she didn't "have just the thing he needed". (grin).

Also, I can only hope that sometime in the near future Jack doesn't feel that it's "always me" who has to make the first approach.

Thanks so much for the update - powerful. bob

Thank you, Bob. I figure if Ennis hasn't learnt by now, he never will :)

I think you have captured the essence of Ennis, a man at war with himself. You have fully developed him and his conflict. He nursed Jack back to health, worried about and cared for him, but could not accept he was in love with a man. As always, very well done.

This chapter did not disappoint. Brava for continuing to write.

Now I got a go before I start blubberin like a girl!

{{hugs}} Leslie.

Thank you, Leslie. I have thoroughly enjoyed working my way through Ennis's mind. He truly was at war with himself.
