I wonder about that first draft that didn't sit right with you, cos this sounds very right to me :)

As he slipped off the shirt his hands discovered the red weals which streaked Ennis's back. They tore like claws at Jack's own heart; he hissed but said nothing, just quickly shed his own work-stained clothes.

Always the ministering angel for Ennis, sometimes it's heartbreaking to see how easily Jack forgives Ennis. I think ultimatey, that makes him the stronger man out of the two, his heart got crushed and bruised but he always got back up and then nursed Ennis' wounds.

And bravo for nailing the tormented soul of ennis del mar, I do wonder if he would ever be OK with who he is. Like Jack said, he just have to stand it.

oh yes... maybe Ennis not thinking too much is a good thing :)

I guess you're stuck with me till, well, till death us do part.

sweetest thing Ennis ever said. Ever. :)

I do think Jack is the stronger. I think they complement each other beautifully but Ennis gets distracted by dumb visions of masculinity.

Jack as the ministering angel is an image I adore which is why I used it for my DCF username.

I think maybe Ennis's confession that he wrung it out a hundred times was pretty sweet too :D

After all that has happened, and the feelings Ennis had when he found Jack after he was hurt, how could Ennis still go off and be with some waitress for 2 days and then finally figure out he's gay and loves only Jack. I'm glad that Jack helped him through it, but I was hoping Jack would let Ennis grovel a little while. I hope Ennis has finally laid his demons to rest. Great chapter.

I wish Ennis were especially unusual but alas, there are so many people still struggling with who they are. I figured that Jack wisely understood that Ennis would have a nervous breakdown if pushed too far. Thank you so much for commenting.

that was absolutley beautiful, but hard, really hard. All the ways that Jack deals with Ennis's fear and shame, well he deserves a medal, but he loves Ennis, so what can he do? I'm so glad they worked it out, I couldnt bear them being apart.

I do agree poor Jack deserves a medal! I guess that he never really has much choice, however. He loves Ennis, as you say, so he's stuck with dealing with him as best he can.

I've left a few comments scattered here and there, but wanted to leave one for the main thread, too ( ... )

Fascinating comments, Jenna. Yes, I suspect it will be back to canon after this, although I do branch out occasionally.

Thank you so much for your support for my story. Much appreciated.

Wow, what an emotional and pain-filled rollercoaster for Ennis and Jack. You captured Ennis's denial and shame of who is and what he loves. You wrote with such in-depth clarity of both J&E's thoughts and feelings and you stayed true to their character. He went to the waitress just to prove to himself he can be "normal" but alas he realised the "truth at last". He came back to Jack. Jack, at first so angry and hurt but when he sees Ennis in distress, he becomes the "ministering angel", wanting to ease Ennis's pain. Glad Ennis at last was able to accept himself and his love for Jack - "till death us do part". I love this fic and your writin is just sublime. Thank you. Hope you're feeling better.

Thank you for that lovely comment, Jess. I really appreciated it. I've tried very hard to stay true to the originals.
