LDS missionaries visited me a few weeks ago, and talking to them makes me want to start a list. A list of things that religion does for these missionaries, and the corresponding ways in which I get the same things without monotheism

I have a passion for mythology - the stories of our cultures. Cultures are made out of stories, and cultural power comes from the grasp a story has on our imagination - even if it's a story we don't know we've heard

We do have some degree of control over our lives, but let's not kid ourselves - in the end we are all victims of chaos. What we call socialism is just an attempt at damage control.
Those that think a person should be held completely accountable for the situation they find themselves in are well off, and desperately trying to keep it that way.
The big trick is that it's not usually productive to feel guilty about a problem. The only person you have to answer to is you. And with self-love, that is not threatening or frightening. But it's incredibly productive to be proud when you improve a problem.
