Nope ... it is an anonymous unrelated donation, but apparently sometimes after a year they let the parties contact each other if they want ...

That is wonderful!!! It's something I started looking into last year but I've had some recent health issues of my own. Do you know what kind of restrictions there are to be a donor? And if you don't mind telling me, what is the process like to get on the list?

CONGRATS AGAIN!

Oh I don't mind telling you at all!

Hmm ... restrictions on being a donor? I think the major ones are if you have ever had bloodborn infectious disease like hepatitis, etc, and your age. I believe that if you have osteoporosis, you aren't eligible (thats what they told my mum) ...

As for the process to get on the list? Hmm, it was about 7 years ago that I did it, but I seem to recall it being very simple ... just filling out some health questionaire forms and giving blood samples ...

This is the info for the Canadian Blood Services (who do the bone marrow stuff)- I assume it is similar in the states:

Thanks! I did a little research today as well and the US restrictions are mostly the same! Congrats again! Keep us posted!
