This is really Brad's story to tell, because he's the one who stayed up for most of last night and staked out Kitty -- who, as it turns out, had nested down with the neighborhood strays in the back yard of a house two doors down

Yes! SO GOOD! I have to spend this weekend getting ready for a show NEXT weekend, and I was wondering how I was going to muster the energy to do anything but wallow.
We are SO RELIEVED. Brad was a total super star, getting up in the middle of the night every night for the last week to search the neighborhood for her, and he showed the patience of a saint last night, waiting for her to fully walk into the trap he had set for her!
my Lucy-kitty was gone for almost an entire month once. Our friend was cat-sitting and thought Lucy got out somehow. Turns out she was hiding in a dark corner, of the back basement on the uppermost shelf for three weeks. It's weird how they can disappear and yet still be so nearby.
(I know you don't know me from Eve...just stumbled upon your LJ and thought I'd comment)
All of the internets told us that, because Kitty was an indoor cat, she would likely stick nearby. SO MANY stories like yours, about kitties being in their own basement/shed/garage/what-have-you. I scoured our attic on a daily basis, just in case!
I hope your kitty had lots of basement snacks and was healthy when you found her!
Thanks! At first, I was all about the flyers and going to Animal Control. Then someone responded to my Craig's List posting with some advice that the cat might not be too far from my friend's house. Sure enough, that's what happened. Lucy must have reverted to a feral state, which is why she didn't come when I called to her.
Lucy had food and water outside of the storage space but didn't touch it. I have no idea what she lived on those three weeks. She was emaciated when we found her!
