Oof. From my comfortable armchair, it sounds like you did the right thing, but wow, I so don't know.
This reminds me of something my EMS instructor once told me: sometimes, all that you can do for your patient, is hold their hand while they die.
I was struck at the time with a feeling of, "Wow, I wonder if I could do that" or "Wow, I wonder what that would do to me". I still don't know. This might be a case of ignorance is bliss...
You're totally right, I think. It was a very ugly scene, and I was definitely wavering on what to do. Have you ever been present at a person's moment of death?
Well, many Kudos for you for at least stoping and trying to help... unlike 99.999% of the other beings that call themselves human who inhabit that planet. And yeah, you did the right thing. An 8 foot snake in severe pain is nothing to mess around with...and they WILL bite you. It was most likely a Burmese python, but you can never be too sure
( ... )
I thought of you while this whole situation was taking place, sort of a "WWSD?" ("What Would Sothe Do?") moment. The only thing I know about handling snakes is that you're not supposed to end up inside them.
I looked at some photographs of Burmese Pythons today, and I think you're spot-on in your identification of the snake. It was very pretty, and must have been more so when it wasn't badly hurt.
Yeah, that's never an easy thing to do. The time something similiar came up for me, I went and got the gun and put the poor rabbit down. I hated to do it, but there wasn't a better solution. Considering the boston area, it really was the police or animal control that needed to do. Private citizens just aren't permitted to be equipped to deal.
Wow tough situation bro. I give you all the credit in the world for stopping, much as I might kid myself I probably wouldn't have. As for whether you did the right thing or not...honestly I don't think anyone can give you that answer but yourself. Those sort of things are different for everyone. Personally I think you did a wonderful thing by simply stopping. As for the bad moods. :( Hugs and sympathy. Maybe its the heat?
