Sandy and I looked at a new place today. It is a lot bigger, and the price is right, but I have reservations. We're gonna think about it a while and go back with a tape measure, to see if we can arrange furniture in appropriate ways. I wish we could trade half the kitchen space for more bedroom, but I suppose there are worse decisions one can be ( Read more... )

I just ordered a few pistols (ALL of the goddamned rifles I wanted were out of stock at hobbytron, and I was too lazy to find the other places I was looking at the other day when you posted about other Airsoft stuff). Of note to you is that I picked up a few "Shanghai Police Gold Series Pistols" with integral laser sight at the low low price of $1.97 each (spring pistols, of course). I will let you know how they perform.

Wait, you're making a larp that's not about how many $EPEEN combat skills you have?

Unpossible.

Let me know if you want help with rules hacking. I'm so-so at stabbing rules a lot and seeing where they bleed. (hariyos and I have done this in the past: we tend to have our own blind spots and so we catch each other's errors. But this should not be construed as volunteering hariyos for such.)

Oh, and I *totally* want to play an invincible NPC all the time. *nods*

As long as it means we aren't losing ya from ToV. :( That would make me sad.

In other news I am pretty sure I'll make a good target dummy so if ya need warm bodies to shoot at and I'm not working I'm there. I am a horrible aim however...

Working on a game engine from the ground up has been a little easier than I thought, mostly because I'm just climbing up on the shoulders of giants.

This made me think of something else: what about the logistical/operational structure for PA? I was thinking this morning that growing the staff infrastructure organically is asking for a disaster: you initially have a small group, so everyone gets used to small-group dynamics, which then fails as the game grows.

Of course, if you start with heavyweight infrastructure with a 15-player, 5-staff game, that has its own problems. :)

But anyways, this seems like a good case of using experience to not repeat history.

What would you advise as an alternative?

Hmm. I think there are lots of steps involved in answering this question. Each step is a fairly easy question, but getting them out of order means that you lose focus on primary issues ( ... )

*drinks more coffee*

"First principles". That's the phrase I was looking for.

You want to figure out what the first principles of infrastructure are. Then you just need to build it and get everyone to use it.

Oh, and I'd like a pony, too. :)
