even meredith brooks's "bitch" was somewhat spectacular for us, cuz she was from oregon city, this yucky town/suburb, and then that song was all over the place!
the most "portland" song for me is cadallaca's "winter storm '98" because my feelings during that storm were represented perfectly in that song.
sigh, i miss being a teenager.

i remember moving to san diego and having a bunch of scenekids talking about jewel and how a few years prior how she'd just fuck everybody who worked at my theatre...and then she became JEWEL.
there was a point when "celebrity skin" came out that i'd blast "mailbu" whenever i happened to be around pch/the ocean.
my all-time favorite california music moment came when i was leaving san diego for the last time and i'd put in a mixtape and waits' "diamonds on my windshield" came up, which has a line "..san clemente coming up" which is an area right before you hit orange county...as i was crossing the border from sd county to 'the oc' "san diego serenade" started playing and i just started bawling.
and in spite of my hatred of no doubt and sublime and sugar ray and save ferris and that whole crowd, i still kind of have a weird fondness in their respective modern rock radio success.
