I've been doing a hell of a lot of reading lately. I'm feeling somewhat like my reclusive 13 year old self again. I haven't been out of the house since... Tuesday? Or Wednesday? And that's fine by me. My dad and I would go to the library on the weekends and I'd take out a stack of books to read over the week. It got to a point where I devoured the ( Read more... )

Hi, Caroline. It's Corey. I created this account mainly so I could comment on your journal entries without anonymity.

I am guilty of not having read much besides coursework since the summer. I just finished reading a body of essays by bell hooks in a collection of hers called Reel to Real: Race, Sex and Class at the Movies. Her analysis of Kids and Smoke invogrates my passion for cultural studies. I love bell hooks.

I've been meaning to read Cunt for quite sometime now. Inga Muscio is so notorious and I think the criticisms of her book have only gotten it more publicity, which I guess she is enjoying. Especially after Jennifer Scala brought it with her into the courtroom to testify about Abu Ghraib. I remember that creating quite the story.

Have you read Jessica Valenti's new book yet? I might order it off Amazon here and see if it I can get it before I come back to Canada. Bet it would be a good read for the plane ride.

Miss you, Caroline. Keep writing on here. It's great to hear your voice.

Word cannot convey how much I love and adore you. Thank you so much for taking an interest and your encouragement.

I've been meaning to check out Bell Hooks, I think it was you that brought her to my attention... I really recommend Cunt, Corey. I'm ashamed to admit I do not know about this story? Elaborate!

And I haven't read her new one yet... I saw it in Chapters the other day. Should be a very good plane read!

No problem, Caroline. Your writings as of late have inspired me to try and not be so lazy myself and perhaps add to the cyberspace conversation with a blog of my own. But procrastination is powerful.

Jennifer Scala testified against Sgt. Michael Smith, who tortured Iraqi war prisoners at Abu Ghraib with his dog. She also had peanut butter licked off of her breasts by the same man's dog. She made headlines when she showed up to testify with Muscio's book in tow.

Her actions sparked Ada Calhoun to write a rebuttle to Inga Muscio's Cunt, so it's created a heated dialogue among the feminist community. It's left me conflicted and I don't know which side I stand on, really. It's a divided issue.

Please start writing! I'd love to read what thoughts are cooking in your head...

Wow. I had no idea about her bringing Cunt to her trial... I don't understand her logic. Hm.
