photoging without flash n dazzle

I need to get over my obsession with trying to take all my pictures without the flash. Maybe if i had a mini tripod i could better get away with it.. but to get any sufficient light i need to have the shutter speed set to at least a quarter second, but really a half second is better... and that just leaves too much time for motion blur and
