TWELFTH NIGHT WITH RANDY

Aug 30, 2010 23:05

I entered the lottery early Saturday morning and won two tickets to the Sunday matinee of Twelfth Night with Randy Harrison at the Sidney Harman Hall in Washington, DC this past weekend. I was able to fly in and out the same day. The hall is huge and holds about 800 people and the tickets are assigned seats so you don't have to wait in a long line ( Read more... )

I'm always mindlful that with the Shakespeare cross-dressing
comedies ("Twelfth Night," As You Like It") we aren't getting
the whole point of them, because, of course, it would be all
boys playing all the female parts, so the idea of a boy playing
a girl who is posing as a boy is lost on a modern audience,
as well as most of the subversive humor.

You make a good point, Gael, though it was fun to watch and I loved the humor of the mistaken identities with the twins and also the forged letter which led to Malvolio's acting a fool.

You're welcome Jeanie. I thought it was worth a shot to enter the lottery on Saturday since I could only do the in and out on a Sunday afternoon because of flight schedules. Finding out just the previous day makes it hard to plan if you are not in the DC area. I am so happy that it all worked out and it was a lovely day to spend in DC.

It was a fun afternoon in our nation's capital and the trip went so smoothly. The lottery didn't make it very accessible to out of towners or in your case non-US fans but it was better than going and standing in line and not getting a ticket.

Yes, Randy is just not as accommodating to his Canadian fans is he? ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your "Twelfth Night" experience, it
is much appreciated! I was so sad from not being able to go to D.C. to
see this that I went to Notre Dame's Shakespeare festival rendering
of "Cymbeline". It was fun and there was the princess disguised as
a boy for most of the 2nd act but in no way was it a replacement for
seeing Randy in "Twelfth Night". Again, thanx for sharing.

I'm glad you enjoyed the report. I like to post my thoughts here so I can have a record of my trips. I read where Gale once appeared in Cymbeline.

Thanks Dixie for allowing us to experience the play through you.
Wish they would have done this in NYC so I could have seen it.

I know. They certainly didn't make it easy for Randy's out of town fans to attend. I know you would have liked it a lot. I was lucky to win tickets and be able to get there.
