Why is 'fat' the worst insult we can come up with? Surely it should be something a tad more relevant to the situation.

Yeah, we probably could have done a bit better, but 'fat' and 'eating lots of food other people can't have' do sort of go hand in hand, even it it didn't make much sense considering the target.
