Danger

I've been made aware today that my body is reaching it's critical mass. I'm in the worst shape i've ever been and it's starting to take effect on my health. Besides having next to no stamina, I'm always hot, i feel muscle pain rather often, and now i've started to feel a pain in my chest. I've had bad digestion recently as well as heartburn. I ( Read more... )

I know what you mean! I work out twice a week, so at least I'm getting a bit of exercise, but it's sooooo easy to fall into bad eating habits, especially when you're really busy or rushed ( ... )

That's a lot of awesome advice, thank you so much!!(^O^)
I usually try to avoid red meat in supermarkets here like the plague, mainly because of the price. But yeah, Japanese people have it in their heads that more fat = more flavor. Not healthy :(
Actually i really like tofu and i got some to put in the nabe :D I'll look for choy sam in the supermarket tomorrow. If i can find it, it should add some much needed flavor to my dishes in the future!(^_^) I usually use Olive oil when i fry, but do you know anything about Canola oil? My mother claims it's the healthiest oil to use, but i still think olive is #1. Thanks again! :D

I don't know about canola oil, but I've heard that olive oil is the healthiest too. Then again, my family is Greek, so olive oil is a staple for us (^_^;) But you could probably look online and find some info about the merits of canola oil vs. olive oil. (^_^)

I love olive oil most of all, so i'll probably just stick with it. My parents used to get annoyed back in Montreal because i used their olive oil even when i fried eggs :-P I just like the way it makes food taste! I really love olives too :)

Two scoops of raisins in your Kellogs Raisin Bran...... anonymous November 29 2006, 18:08:27 UTC
Lay off the Kim Chi and the 5 minute noodles. Stop eating the Tofu sushi...too much seafood ain't good for you. Eats some FIBRE, Eat some Shishtaouk with KousKous or a Shawarma with Pita Bread. Eat some VEGGIS, the greener the better (i.e. Broccoli...if you can find.) Eat some dairy! You need some variety in your diet Man! Go do some real grocery shopping! And if THAT don't work go to a vitamin supplement store and pop some pills (don't recommend it) OR better yet, haul your fat butt and get Pops to do some home cooked meals hahaha. Laters.

Thanks for the advice!
But dude, Shishtaouk and Shawarma are chicken or beef with sauce, wrapped in pita, but the meat is drenched in FAT while it cooks. Not good for a diet unless i make it myself without the fat bath. Veggies i'm with you on. I'm all about veggies these days(well, these last 2 days anyways) I got some stuff at the supermarket earlier and i'm always looking for new things to use. I haven't had any red meat or chicken for 2 days and i'm gonna keep this going until i find a good way to cook it.

WATER and milk all the way!! No more juice or soda

I suggest cutting down on meat and bread. Don't DON'T eat fast food. It's easy, but it will kill your health.

Bread here is terribly unhealthy, and sometimes I've seen labels on bread that include lard as an ingredient. Look for lard--you'll be surprised how many things here contain it.

Eat veggies. Go for more traditional Japanese food. Look up vegetarian recepies online.

Cut out sugary drinks like soda. Coffee's okay, but try to choose tea and juices.

Good luck!

Thanks Kim!! :)
Meat is all but out of my current diet plans, except for fish, eggs and chicken. So i should say "no red meat". No fried food either. If i eat chicken or fish, it has to be boiled or grilled in some kind of healthy way. I'm also cutting back bread. In fact, i haven't had any bread or red meat since i started this thing on Wednesday, and i have no plans to break this regiment in the near future. I might have some bread later, but i need to check the ingredients now...

LARD??? Are you serious??(O_o) Holy crap, i'm gonna start looking for that! It never even occured to me to look for something as odd as that. Thanks for the warning!

Coffee i hate, but i've been drinking nothing but water and tea lately. Oolong tea is supposed to be super healthy, and i also picked up a carton of 100% soy milk, unsweetened. It tasted like drinking tofu, but i'll do it if it's healthy. It actually tastes pretty decent once you get used to it :)

Before you go cutting things out of your diet, you need to figure out what it is exactly that's making you gain weight. Different people gain weight from different things. Some people gain weight from sodium, others sugar, others carbs, and in some instances, even dairy. My first suggestion to you is to keep a small notebook handy (pocket sized if you want it to be more portable). I would write down what you eat and what effect it has on you (chest pain, drowsiness, indigestion, making your body feel heavy, feeling bloated, etc) just until you get an idea as to what your body has the worst reactions to. Fast food should definitely be cut out not so much because of what's in it, but because of how it's cooked. If you're going to eat rice, try to eat brown rice. Although too much rice isn't good either. Grill or bake instead of frying. Buy lean meats if you have the means to purchase meat (since you said it's expensive). Seafood is good... some nutritionists recommend 10 servings of seafood per week. By servings, I don't mean ( ... )

Great advice, thanks D!! I'll call you tonight to give you some details about my appliance situation and to get some recipies from you :)

Actually i cut out soda a long time ago, and i don't drink juice either anymore -- just water and tea. That change made me feel good for a while, but now something else is messing with my health

Just a note, tofu is really fatty. High in good protein, but also high in fat. Chicken soup with lots of veggies is both easy to make and good for you. Salmon, which is extremely cheap in Japan, is one of the best fishies for you.

Tofu is FATTY??(O_o) Oh-oh... that sucks as i was planning on using it a lot more in my cooking from now on :( Oh well, in moderation it should be ok, and i don't think i could manage to eat enough of it to be dangerous either way (taste is a big factor here :-P ) Thanks for the info!! :D
