1. I spend a lot of time on FreeRice. It's a lot of fun, and what a great cause!

Fantasy books... hmmm...

Well, always - Mercedes Lackey's books tend to hit the spot for me. I love the Elves on the Road universe - Diana Tregarde books are fun, the Bedlam Bard and The Serrated Edge books always fun. I love her Elemental Masters series. And of course, the Valdemar universe. I love that I can totally suspend disbelief and her characters are usually engaging and fun. She's also fairly prolific, so there are a lot of them. *shrugs*

Also, two of the books that I continually go back to: The Blue Sword and also The Hero and The Crown both by Robin McKinley. I also really enjoyed her take on vampires and such in her book Sunshine.

These are some of the older books that I absolutely love, and if you haven't read any, you should check them out. :)

Hope that helps :) If you'd rather more up to date recs, ping me and I'll go make a list of what's on my shelf...

Fantasy is my favorite genre! Off the top of my head:

Terry Goodkind
Sara Douglass
Elizabeth Haydon
Juliet Marillier
Charles de Lint - urban fantasy, which is so cool

I've been trying to get into fantasy lately, but I had a bit of a rash of bad fantasy books hence the wish for recs. :) I'll be sure to look into these authors, thank you!

I second the recommendation of Charles de Lint. I forget who that was who recced him to you, but I agree that he's fantastic.

In all of the recs I've gotten so far there seems to be reccurring authors and he seems to be one of them. I think I'll put him on a list for my next trip to the library/bookstore. :)
