TARDIS shawl! Of course I must make that, even though I'm totally not into shawls*. Bonus points for my friend's store having the almost-exclusive colorway!

*Seriously, why have shawls suddenly become sooooo popular? I hardly ever see people wearing them.

That is fantastic. Wonder if I could adapt the pattern onto a sweater or something.... (might just run up a shawl first though; I do always have some sort of coverup here at my desk at work, altho it usually includes sleeves.)

The TARDIS chart is pretty simple, so I think you could easily put it on the hem of a sweater. Heck, maybe I'll try that myself someday!

Okay, good point. I'm just a bit surprised because shawls always seem to dominate Ravelry's "Most Popular" list, but I seldom see people actually wearing them.

Because they provide more room for expression than a scarf while not requiring sleeves or being a poncho?

Fair enough. When I look at most of the shawls on Ravelry, they tend to be the really lacy ones that look a bit old-fashioned. But I've also seen quite a few new patterns that are really interesting, such as those from Stephen West (one of my WIPs is his "Herbivore".)

THANK YOU for the link!

I have no idea about the shawl popularity, maybe it's that they are frequently less complicated to make than the average sweater? What I don't get is the popularity in my knitting crowd of cowls. I think they are weird.

That's awesome, if only I could knit. As for shawls, I keep a big one at my desk. Very useful on chilly days when I have to have the door open for kids coming and going, and when I'm on duty on a freezing field...
