[Rose is taking the whole situation in stride. Seriously, there are only so many times one can be trapped in another universe and join up with the local military before even that gets a little routine. Going back to school, though... that's new.

She doesn't bother to visit the dorm and change out of her UNIT uniform, deciding instead to jump right ( Read more... )

[And Marco grabs a seat across from her and glances at the various gear.]

Looks like someone's well prepared, eh. Just get back from a mission?

Hm...?

[Rose looks down, then up at him. She's been carrying them for so long that she's forgotten that most don't.]

Oh. Probably not the sort you're thinkin' of. I'm a new Cadet.

Not a SeeD?

Welcome to the Garden then. I'm Marco, an older Cadet.

Never went to school for it, no.

Nice to meet you. I'm Rose.

[The name still feels strange from disuse, but she ignores it.]

You like it here?

Nice to meet you Rose.

Yeah, I do. Getting to learn about things before just experiencing them is something of a luxury for me. It's nice.

[That earns a smile.]

Even the academics?

[Grins back, way too cocky.]

Yeah, but luckily most of those are pretty universal, so it was a breeze.

[She's familiar with that grin and the sort that wear it. Does she need to keep an eye on you, mister?]

They're basically turnin' us out to be soldiers, yeah? I don't know how balancing a chemical reaction or proper ballroom dancing is useful for it.

[Probably.]

Well, mercenaries. And everyone says that about ballroom dancing, but you've clearly never had to sneak into a marine ball and pretend to be one of them by out dancing all of them. And balancing chemical reactions is definitely important if you're deal with explosives and alcohol.

The only difference is who you're doin' it for.

Can't say I have, but it's a sorry day if I can't lie, sneak, or otherwise break into some place I shouldn't be. As for the explosives... well, I'll just hope I do better the second time 'round with the sciences.

Yourself or your country. Big difference I'd say.

[Grins ear to ear, oh he likes her already.] You don't say. Well, if you need help with the non-magical induced chemical reactions, I might be able to offer some help in that area.

Like it matters? I dunno about you, but my country is a few universes [points in a random direction] that way.

That'd be lovely, actually. Thank you.

Mine's probably more that way. [Crosses his arms like the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz and then points a different direction than hers.] Well, my world. I have no country.

[Grins at her accepting his offer though.] My pleasure.

[she chuckles, then arches an eyebrow]

[curious, but not judging] Haven't found something worth fightin' for?

[Blinks at the question and points at the tattoo on his chest.] My family. But I don't have to be back in my world to keep doing that.

[she's noticed the tattoo, but has been trying not to stare] 'S easier when they're close by, though.
