[Mikuru approaches out of curiosity. She's seen the SeeD uniform, but...]

Excuse me, ma'am? What's that uniform?

Definitely! I'm learning things my schools at home never would have taught. And most people are really nice.

I can imagine something like combat training isn't common to most.

['Most'?] You having trouble with some of 'em?

Oh, nothing ongoing... [Unless you count a very biased instructor, which Mikuru doesn't.] Some people are just crabby... And don't react that well when you spill soup on them. [This was how Mikuru's first day at Garden went. Months later, she is still embarrassed about it, so she rushes the next bit.] Which is understandable!

[A sympathetic wince.] Well, I'm sure most people weren't too happy showin' up here in the first place. And the soup was probably an accident, yeah? If they haven't gotten over that, it's their own problem.

[She nods earnestly. Of course it was an accident: She's just a klutz.] It's okay; it's just a few people. Everyone else has been great! [And that is completely genuine, not trying to cover anything up.]

Well, it's nice not to have to worry about the other students at least. The letter seemed to say that we might have trouble with the locals? If I'm reading it right.

Um, a few girls get really nasty about it... Nothing outright that would get them in trouble, but you can hear them in the cafeteria sometimes... [Mikuru has never engaged them.] The people in town usually act pleasantly enough, but I try not to use my powers outside of Garden like the letter said.

Oh, those sorts. I guess some things never change. If it's not something big, it's something stupid like them not liking your hair. They just get their kicks from putting people down.

[a curious headtilt] Powers?

[Mikuru pauses, her gaze darting around the cafeteria, but she quickly decides that she's given her her 'name', so she might as well go all the way now, to hell with any eavesdroppers.]

I...can shoot laser beams from my eye. Jump higher and further than normal people... And... [Another quick glance around. What with people ending up here by time compression, Mikuru is usually hesitant to mention this, so she says it quietly.] I can travel through time.

Not while I'm wearing this, though! [She indicates her floral dress and cardigan.] Only when I'm wearing this one costume, and put my hair up. [Her hair's down today; she holds it up in two ponytails to demonstrate.]

[Rose looks absolutely delighted with this information. Not entirely sure how it's physically possible to shoot lasers from your eyes, but whatever.] You really are a superhero. You've got a secret identity and everything.

[She leans forward conspiratorially.] You know something? I used to time travel, too.

[bunnypassingby]

[Mikuru beams, first because she's unused to this reaction, and then because oh wow, another time traveler!]

How did you do it? Did you have a costume too?

[notthelostgirl]

Nothing like that. There was this amazing ship that could appear at any time and place. [A wistful smile.] I was lucky enough to travel with her and her captain for a while.

Any place, too? Wow... [She's rather enchanted by this idea.] That sounds wonderful! I didn't really get to travel many places.

[notthelostgirl]

Yep. Anywhere in the universe, and occasionally the one next door.

Really? Didn't you worry about running into yourself?

[bunnypassingby]

[She shakes her head.] Once I got the hang of it I just went to one time plane and stayed there: That's when the person I had to protect is from.
